Ever since I started on my natural healing path, I turned to herbs for medicine.
A teacher once told me many of the herbs for women's health have silver backs--an old wives tale suggest they were touched by the moon.
I practice herbalism in my own life, and have experienced the healing and relief herbs can provide. They really are our allies. Below are a few of the plants that have helps me with my premenstrual symptoms and bleeding time.
Red Raspberry Leaf tones your uterine muscles. I take this herb 1 week before my cycle begins and notice a radical shift in my cramping. If I am diligent and remember to medicate , sometimes I will have little to no cramping at all. You can steep the herb it to make a tea, take capsules or a tincture. Last month I was busy and forgot to take any herbs during my pms time. I was hit with the most painful cramps and could not move for the whole first day of bleeding. This showed me how much this medicine truly works.

Lavender helps cramping and soothes muscle spasms. I rub lavender oil on my womb space throughout the day while I’m menstruating. I massage my lower back and anywhere else that feels sore. If you experience headaches and migraines along with your pms symptoms, lavender oil helps by providing you some of its aromatherapy properties. Inhaling the scent of an essential oil or herbal oil provides deep relief for headaches and you can also rub the oil on your temples for comfort.

Premenstrual symptoms are a sign to slow down and nurture yourself with the utmost self-care. This means going inward while you are descending into the darkness. You are preparing to shed our cycle from the whole month prior. This is powerful energy moving in our bodies- you must surrender to our natural flow and take time to recluse.
