It was around 5 years ago when I kinda had a breakdown.
I had put in the paraguard iud in a couple months prior, and my cycle was becoming very irregular. During menstruation, I would be doubled over with intense cramping and bleed through everything I owned. I had no idea what was going on, all I could do was feel was the pain, and I wondered-
Do I really have to suffer like this?
Since the paraguard iud is made of copper and provides no synthetic hormones, I thought it was my best option. It was not, as the womb space is holy to me, and sticking a piece of metal up there was something my uterus did not like. Every bleed, my body was trying to expel the intrauterine device. My intuition was nudging and nudging at me to get the iud out, and one day I finally listened.
I began to search for a natural birth control and found fertility awareness method, where you use your body’s natural signs to tell if you are fertile. I went deep into this method, researched all the info and read all the books. Taking Charge Of Your Fertility being the queen of all FAM texts.
Not only does this method provide you a safe and natural birth control (amazing) but it opened me to the wonder of living by your cycle.
Charting your cycle shows you how to identify your 4 unique phases- menstrual, follicular, ovulation, luteal.
Every woman, whether she is avoiding pregnancy or trying to conceive, needs to know this information.
After every break down, comes the break through.
3 Ways Living By My Cycle Transformed My Life
1. Enhanced My Creativity
When I chart my cycle, I know exactly when I’m the most energized and creative.
I’m most productive at the end of my follicular phase into ovulation, about the 2nd and 3rd week after menstruation. This is my peak fertile window and when I should create. I do a bulk of my writing during this phase, with stellar results. Long gone are the days where I’m staring at a blank word doc with no words to write, or feeling like I’m too tired to do anything. When I do have a writer’s block it’s usually because I’m pre-menstrual in my luteal phase, and shedding all creative life force. (This is the best time to edit.) Harnessing my fertile energy and channeling it into my work makes all the difference. I can be productive now without it feeling strained.
2. Learned How to be Patient
I used to be every impulsive. It came from a fear of not feeling safe enough to trust. Living by my cycle means I have to slow down and go at my own speed . Now I know it’s a process, and it’s all happening in divine timing. If I want something to happen, I have to check in first- Where am I in my cycle? I feel at ease knowing that if it’s not flowing right now, I’ll always have a chance to do it next cycle, as it always returns. There is no rush.
3. Fell More in Love With Me
Nothing has grown the self-love more than accepting my own flow. Understanding my cycle means I can take a deep look at the core of my essence- a cyclical being. I look forward to each and every phase because I know the benefits of each one. Once I started loving my period, really loving the magic of our cycles, the pain and the pleasure. I started seeing it as a gift it is. It was this realization when I began to love myself . It wasn't the looking hot in the mirror, or the accomplishments or words of praise, but the loving of my blood. It was the loving of my blood that introduced me to making peace with my most shamed parts, when I could fully step in to an embodied love frequency like no other.
I write and speak this time and time again.
Feminine energy does not move in a straight line,
We move in spirals.
Work with your 4 unique energies and your whole life will change.
